San Diego Trip

We took the I2 to San Diego for an overnight trip as this was the Veteran's Day weekend. I used 30k Hilton points for one free stay at DoubleTree in the Hotel Circle. Even better we got upgraded to the top floor for a suite with a bunked bed for the kids. They loved it.

Here are some pics of the hotel. We stayed here before in 2003 and was not impressed. They had a facelift recently and it was a great experience with Wolfgang Puck coffee, comfy beds, and nice balcony. The drawback was our room right next to the elevator so it's quite noisy.

The next morning I found that I left the lights on and had to call AAA to jump the van, wasting an hour and a half (had to keep the car running). When we finally got to the zoo it's about 11 am. We went directly to the Sky Safari tram ride. Up there it was so windy that Peggy and Isaac were sitting on the floor the entire ride - only Iris braved through the gusts.

Right next to the tram terminal was the polar bear house. We watched one bear playing with a red rubber ball in the water. It was amazing - see the video.

It was raining hard for a while and entire day it was chilly. We also went to see panda, hippos, koala, and others. We left at about 3pm and as usual stopped by Carlsbad to suit Peggy's shopping desire - amazingly she just bought several assessories at Le Creuset, a cookware brand she's so into it lately... Then we stopped by a new Asian's shopping center in Irvine (Jamboree and Alton) where for the first time I tasted bread and coffee at 85 C Cafe and Bakery - it's by far the best in LA.
